As previously mentioned, we are playing at the Apollohal (Apollolaan 4, Amsterdam) for the first time. The venue is best reached by public transport—such as trams 12, 5, 24, and 25, or bus 246—and is wheelchair accessible. There are two accessible parking spaces in the small car park. The fastest option by train is to travel to Station Zuid; from there, the final leg to the venue takes just 5 minutes by rental bike (OV-fiets). Food and drinks are not permitted inside the playing hall, but a wide range of refreshments will be available for purchase on-site.

One week before the event begins, all participants will receive a final email update containing information on catering, start times, byes, and more.

Paul van der Sterren, a friend of the tournament, has agreed to host a simultaneous exhibition on Saturday, October 24th, in a side room from 14:00 to 16:00. Paul is a two-time Dutch champion and a former World Championship quarter-finalist. Since retiring from competitive chess, he has served as chairman of the Max Euwe Centre, among other roles, and writes books offering insights into chess and chess players. Paul continues to follow elite-level chess closely. There are 30 spots available. Registration is now open!

Did you know that ACO = PK?

At ACO, we play multiple games simultaneously. For instance, the event also serves as the battleground for the SGA Individual Championship. This means that the highest-ranking player representing a club in the Greater Amsterdam Chess Federation (SGA) league holds the title of Individual Champion of Amsterdam for a year and takes home the Wil Haggenburg Trophy. He or she will succeed the 2025 winner, FM Bonno Pel.
